What to Expect During Your First Saline Tattoo Removal Session

By Cristina, NVQ Level 4 Aesthetic Therapist

Your first appointment starts with a consultation, not straight into treatment. We look at your tattoo or eyebrows, ask about your skin and health history, and check for anything that would affect healing, such as keloid scarring or diabetes. We may also do a small patch test. You'll leave knowing roughly how many sessions to expect and what each one costs.

If you go ahead with treatment the same visit, the area is cleaned with antiseptic first — we don't shave it beforehand. A sterile, single-needle machine then works the saline solution along the original tattoo or eyebrow lines, following the pattern already in your skin. Most sessions take 30 to 90 minutes depending on size, and it's completely normal to see ink lift onto the wipe as we work — that's a sign the saline is doing its job.

The area is bandaged before you leave. Over the next few days you can expect tenderness, redness, and mild swelling, sometimes with a little fluid weeping — this is a normal part of healing, not a sign anything has gone wrong. A scab forms within the first 4 to 10 days and needs to be left to fall off naturally on its own.

We'll send you full written aftercare instructions to take home, and you're always welcome to get in touch if anything about your healing looks or feels unusual.
