Can Saline Remove Old Tattoos?

By Cristina, NVQ Level 4 Aesthetic Therapist

Yes — saline removal works on tattoos of any age. There's no cut-off point where a tattoo becomes too old to treat; the same method that works on a recent tattoo works just as well on one that's been there for years.

What actually affects the number of sessions isn't how long ago you got the tattoo, but factors like how deep the ink sits, how dense it is, its size, and how many colours are involved. An older tattoo that's already faded naturally over the years can sometimes respond a little quicker for exactly that reason.

The process itself doesn't change for an older tattoo: a sterile, single-needle machine works saline solution along the existing lines, drawing ink upward as the area heals, over a series of sessions spaced 8 to 10 weeks apart.

If you've got an old tattoo you've been living with for years and are finally ready to fade or remove it, a free consultation is the best way to get a realistic sense of what to expect.
